This presentation explores strategies to enhance the onboarding journey for potential volunteers, ensuring they feel welcomed, informed, and motivated from their first interaction. It highlights the importance of a smooth onboarding process in building engagement, increasing retention, and aligning volunteers with the organization’s mission and values. The session covers key challenges in current onboarding practices, introduces best-practice approaches, and presents practical tools for communication, training, and support. By improving the onboarding experience, organizations can increase volunteer satisfaction, reduce drop-off rates, and build a strong, committed volunteer community that contributes effectively to organizational goals.

Speaker Bio: Kaleena Morgan is a Long-Term Care Ombudsman Representative with the Office of the Georgia State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, South Region. She currently serves as the Program’s Coordinator and works with a team of Ombudsman Representatives who serve as advocates for residents in skilled nursing facilities, personal care homes/board and care homes, assisted living communities, community living arrangements, and intermediate care facilities. Prior to serving in this role, Kaleena served as the Program’s Data Specialist. She operates the South Region’s volunteer program, an essential part of the LTC Ombudsman Program. She has volunteered and managed volunteers in various capacities and understands the importance and impact that volunteers have.
