Welcome to the James P. Marshall Jr. Archives - a collection of historical documents and information that has been in the files of the Georgia Association for Volunteer Administration (GAVA). These archives are named in honor of long-time board member, treasurer, and founding member for GAVA James. P. Marshall Jr. For more information about Mr. Marshall, please check our press release on his retirement which was also published on May 7, 2026 in the Eatonton Messenger.

This archive will be an ongoing project as documents are identified. Most documents will be in PDF format but have searchable text. We will only be sharing documents that we believe are in the Public Domain, are owned by GAVA, or we have permission to share. The Georgia Volunteer (1974-1980)

The Georgia Volunteer is a publication of the Georgia Office of Volunteer Services (now known as the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism under the Georgia Department of Community Affairs) and the Georgia Department of Administrative Services. This newsletter was with the first issue published in October 1974 continuing through 1980. GAVA has partnered with the Georgia Historic Newspapers Archive as part of the Digital Library of Georgia under the University Libraries of the University of Georgia. Scans can also be found on their website.

The GAVA Gazette was the newsletter for GAVA for at least 1995 and 1999. We suspect to find more issues as we work through our archives.

INSIGHT is the newsletter of the Tri-Community Directors of Volunteer Services (Tri-DVS) based in Columbus, Georgia. Currently we only have one issue from 2000.
